It’s about time! Here we have 13 strapping young Udallers traveling in a tricked out bus with a kicking sound system. A cowboy hat made its debut Sunday evening, to everyone’s delight. I can’t believe it took us 3 weeks to have our first dance party – clearly we’ve been working too hard!
Inspired by Nashville’s bumping music scene, we began playing Johnny Cash’s “Get Rhythm” and danced in the bus aisle. (We knew those hand grips on the bus were there for a reason!) Hoping to inspire some bystanders to join us, we cruised down the strip and danced off the bus in front of the bars, but you couldn’t really hear our music outside, and it was a Sunday night, so most people who happened to be hanging out nearby looked baffled rather than inspired to see us bopping around!
I know I’m not alone in saying that I hope many more dance parties are to come. We’re already looking forward to Zydeco in New Orleans!
We’re curious … What music would you blast if you were traveling around the country in a bus with your friends?

That bus dance party sure looked like fun! After all the work you guys do, all the digging around and cleaning up, I think you totally deserve this fun night for a change. Boo to the baffled bystanders, it's a pity they didn't know what fun you guys were having! If they knew, I'm sure they would have joined in. I know I certainly would have.
Hmm... If I were traveling around the country in a bus with my friends, I'll get them to play whatever music they like! I'm not that picky, that's why. Anything with a fast tempo, and I'm all set for dancing! I hope you guys have more bus dance parties like this one!
Fabulous!
I've been to few dance parties even half so fun as yours looked - bus or no bus. I had to restrain myself from standing up and dancing around my office! So much fun!
After a penetrating and insightful 5 minutes of pondering, I have decided that my musical taste does not lend itself well to bus dance parties. The best thought I could conjure up was everyones favorite Bon Jovi song: catchy but cliche "Living on a Prayer". Clearly I have never been inspired by the Nashville music scene, or I'd have more helpful suggestions.
Keep on Rocking in the Free World!
A Shout out to Jessica Fagan and the rest! Jessica, it looks like you recovered just fine from our little San Francisco adventure in the middle there! ;) Keep up the great work you all!
I've been reading the bus tour blogs. I even watched the dance party video, and after doing so I just have one thing to say. Someone needs to teach ya'll to dance country. I don't think you're allowed to dance like that in Nashville. There's probably a city ordinance or something. Not to mention how it besmirches Johnny. Disgraceful!
I write this in the desperate hope that even one of you will decide to learn the two step.
Love, -Chet Phillips, Udall '05, US Institute Intern '07, and cowboy riding for the Perrier brand. Really, I go out country dancing wearing a Perrier belt buckle I got at a swap meet, because nothing says Cowboy Up like French mineral water.
